Re: Martin Braithwaite
I'd quite like to see what he could do with us - providing we don't pay through the nose for him.

Clearly, he wouldn't be most people's first choice of new striker. But we have to be realistic about the current situation. Whether we like it or not (I don't!), GSB are not going to be spending big in what remains of the transfer window. They've barely spent at all - so let's get realistic about what's (not) coming.

Given where we are right now, I'd take this fella to give us back-up in the Premier League and to play in some European matches. We are running out of options and time - which, of course, says more about the way the club is run at board/CEO level than anything else.

In addition, there is little doubt that Braithwaite has improved at Barcelona. Sure, he's not world-class. But equally he's not the same player Middlesbrough signed either.

Braithwaite got 2 goals and an assist yesterday as Barca beat Real Sociedad 4-2
He seems to like life without Messi.

"If we were signing Martino Brathwaitio from Barca people would be excited"

Maybe so, if people had never seen him play. For those of us who have, he's a bit shit, whatever his name is.

Only reason Barca got him in the first place was that the transfer window had already shut and the rules meant that they could only get someone already playing in Spain. He was fairly cheap and had a release clause which meant his previous club couldn't stop the transfer, even though they weren't happy about it.

Re: Martin Braithwaite
This is an example of a players name dictating the narrative about him.

If we were signing Martino Brathwaitio from Barca people would be excited but Martin Braithwaite sounds like we are signing Sean Beans character from when saturday comes.

He is a pretty good forward. Will have something to prove and if we can do well we have a lot of games this season.

Sigh him

Iron Duke 1:09 Sun Aug 1, those stats are for all games in the season, including, La Liga, Copa de Rey, Champions League and Spanish super copa.
I got the stats from the players profiles on transfermarkt.com if you want to have a look.

I agree, Braithwaite is no star and has an average record, but not the shit many of you say. Anyway, I’ll be surprised if Moyes takes him.

Getting him from Barca is like going to an Aston Martin dealer and drooling over the latest model then asking if they have any high mileage cheaper models out the back.

Re: Martin Braithwaite
I would be very disappointed if we spent any money on Braithwaite. Is a worker but not much else and the wrong age.

Best suggestion I have seen from the rumours for reasonable money and our style of play, who I had seen a decent amount was Yaremchuk but he went to Benfica for 18/19 mill.

Martin Braithwaite is SHIT

Re: Martin Braithwaite
Barca are trying to offload at least a dozen overrated, overvalued players which had no business being anywhere near that club in the first place.

The ex-president is pleading incompetence but it's very difficult to believe that a club can be run as badly as they were during his tenure.

Something smells very fishy indeed...

Re: Martin Braithwaite
Have to disagree with you Mex, they are shocking stats, as Nagel says Boro got shot of him in and that was second division.

Iron Duke 1:09 Sun Aug 1
Re: Martin Braithwaite
I’m not sure where you are getting those stats from.

In La Liga last season -

Braithwaite 1 goal every 580 minutes
Griezmann 1 goal every 201 minutes

Plus, Braithwaite’s record has been poor throughout his career.

Mex Martillo 12:29 Sun Aug 1
Re: Martin Braithwaite
It’s true Barca forwards are not that prolific, as a lot of goals come from midfield.
However, as a comparison Griezmann score 20 in 51 games in the 20/21 season.
Should be said that Braithwaite often comes on late and plays less time, so maybe these stats are more relevant:
Braithwaite, 1 goal every 245 mins played
Griezmann, 1 goal every 195 mins played

Nagel 11:53 Sun Aug 1
Re: Martin Braithwaite
Mex, those stats are a lot closer to terrible than great, especially when you consider who he played for. These are the goals he managed last season in 42 games:

Osasuna & Real Valladolid in his 2 La Liga goals from 29 games.
Dynamo Kyiv (twice) & Ferencváros in the CL.
Cornellà (3rd division team) & Sevilla in Copa del Rey.

He may well have other qualities, but goal scoring ain't one of them and neither are assists really.

More than anything though, this was a player deemed not good enough for Boro, in the Championship. And that was just a couple of years ago, not when he was a youngster.

Sven Roeder 11:49 Sun Aug 1
Re: Martin Braithwaite
Not watched any Barcelona since La Liga disappeared from Sky but am guessing a 'striker' for Barcelona basically spends a lot of time holding the ball up for Messi & Griezmann.

I see Chelsea have given up on the ludicrous £40m for Abraham and have marked him down to £30m.
Keep going .... you cunts. £20m tops

Mex Martillo 11:49 Sun Aug 1
Re: Martin Braithwaite
Where did you get that from Lee?
Different from what I posted from transfermarkt.com?
It is pretty clear Braithwaite is not a player that will improve our squad much.

Lee Trundle 11:36 Sun Aug 1
Re: Martin Braithwaite
"Should really be looking at his Barca stats"

His stats in the BREAD AND BUTTER are tragic for a striker who plays for Barcelona.

40 games
3 goals
2 assists

Mex Martillo 11:26 Sun Aug 1
Re: Martin Braithwaite
Should really be looking at his Barca stats
20/21 season played in 42 games, scored 7 and 4 assists
19/20 season played 38, scored 9 and 1 assist
Estimated value 9M
It’s not that great, but not that terrible either...

Very average at top level.

Him bring at Barca is like me being at West Ham. I watched him in the Euros and was very underwhelmed.
